Amazing portrait of Frances Clare (b. 1904. Easthampstead, Berkshire). She was an actress, known for Gone to Earth (1950) and Panic at Madame Tussaud’s (1948). She was married to Esmond Knight. She died on April 25, 1995 in Wimbledon. Signed Lenare and including the standard lion as on all his photos. Lenare (Leonard George Green) the photographer flourished from c 1924 to 1977. He took many B&W portraits of people “in society” and there are many of his works in the National Portrait Gallery and various Stately Homes (National Trust etc.) A small amount of age/water damage at bottom right of photo. In original frame with secure screws and a stand (for on top of a grand piano?)
